Anticipation builds as the time approaches midnight on the last day of each year. The countdown to a brand new set of 365 days ignites a desire to start afresh with dreams, goals, and perspectives.
But, what generally happens as the new year progresses? The resolve to remain passionate and focussed tends to fade. Somehow motivation dwindles; momentum diminishes.
So, how does one stay on track without getting into a recurrent cycle of depleted strength year after year?
It all depends on your position.
The Mystery of the Dew
Consider the dew; a remarkable phenomenon.
During the calm stillness of the night, the dew gracefully descends on a landscape under open heavens. Moisture droplets gently form on blades of grass and other exposed vegetation, revitalizing it for a new day.
Even the most driest regions on Earth that lack rainfall for months on end, become refreshed by the dew.
Just as the dew serves the unique purpose of refreshing plant life, God is the only One who can replenish us, especially our weary condition.
It is His Word that can breathe life into every aspect of our lives. “For He spoke, and it came into being. He issued a decree, and it stood firm.” (Psalm 33:9).
How to Flourish
When we quiet our souls from distractions to remain still in His Presence and to read His Word, we are exposing our lives to Our Creator to gently cover us. In other words, we are in optimal position to be replenished by His Strength.
It is commonplace to think that one needs to be in a frenzy to keep up with the fast-paced nature of our world. However, the key to remaining passionate and focussed in life is to be still and completely dependent on God.
After all, not only did God design us, but He also knows the great plans He has for us so that we will not simply survive, but prosper in all things.
The secret to how we can flourish even in the desert places of life is to wait upon God.
We hope that this note will encourage you to dive deep into the mysteries found in the Word of God and to allow His Wisdom to guide you each day. And what better time to begin to position yourself to be saturated by His Truth than during the month of January, which is Bible-reading month.
Here is a brief, yet powerful prayer with which you can begin your quiet times:
“Dear Lord, as I read Your Word, I ask that You would form Your Word over my life. Just like the dew of heaven, may Your Word and purposes form over my life. Replenish me in every way so that I can face each day with Your Strength and Wisdom. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.”
For I am like a tree whose roots reach the water, whose branches are refreshed with the dew.
New honours are constantly bestowed on me, and my strength is continually renewed.
(Job 29:19-20 NLT)
