A Time and Season of Change

“He changes times and seasons…” (Daniel 2:21a)

There are moments when words simply cannot do justice in describing an experience. This is our attempt to record an overview of an entire season’s worth of such moments.

As you read the following post, we pray that the Lord will speak to your heart about pursuing Him in a deeper level in your faith journey. May this spark a deep hunger in your heart to know the heart of God and experience Him in a fresh way in your life.

Throughout 2012, Quinton and I began to notice that many non-sensical incidents were happening at an ever-increasing rate all around us.

People; situations; environments: Nothing. Made. Sense.

By the Fall of 2012, we faced a vast expanse of dense, toxic haze.

And for those of you who have experienced smoggy days, you likely know the best thing for one to do is to stay indoors.

In a way, we did just that. As a family, we decided to shut ourselves in God and wait at His Feet. It was during this time of praying together where we felt led to begin a fast that we have never done before.

This fast involved setting aside favourite foods, activities, hobbies, friendships; just about everything.

Every time we felt the desire to engage in such pleasures, we took that time to intentionally focus on drawing nearer to God through praise, prayer, and diving deeper into the Word of God. We set a 6-month timeline to complete this fast on May 1st, 2013.

This was more than simply being on a quest to find clarity and answers for ourselves. We wanted His Will to be done in our lives no matter what. We felt a deep hunger grow in our hearts and a desire to free ourselves of all distractions so we could press in to Him. So we waited and we listened.

About two months into the fast, we felt something shift in our hearts; almost as if our hearts shifted into gear. We felt urged to share certain revelations that we had taken note of during our quiet times before Him. So we agreed to obey, and asked God to show us the way.

And as we obeyed His leading, something began to happen. Every day since then, we have been connecting with people we didn’t know before and reconnecting with people we once knew but with whom we had lost contact. People came to our door, and we started receiving texts, phone calls, and emails out of the blue.

We immediately noticed a commonality with all of these dear people. They each began to share their prayer requests with us and they even acknowledged that they did not know why they were talking to us about it.

And to God alone be all the glory that He has intervened in every single one of their lives and has brought amazing breakthroughs. His answers to prayer have brought restoration to so many people at levels that we cannot describe.

While we kept our eyes fixed on Him, God began to prune many things out of our lives, and He began to turn the page for a new chapter in many areas. In certain situations, He even exposed people’s hidden agendas right before our eyes. We received clarity to the finest detail.

A refreshing wind from Heaven began to blow and it cleared the haze around us. Our lives were taken through one major detox!

The more we fixed our eyes on Him and surrendered ourselves to the Holy Spirit to brood over our lives, the more He began to restore order to that which was once chaos.

And so we are going public with this testimony to:

  • praise God for His Faithfulness and Goodness for continuing to transform our hearts, work wonders in our lives, and do much more than we could ever imagine,
  • thank Him for allowing us to witness His amazing work in the lives of so many families and friends, and
  • encourage others who want to discover God in an intimate way.

Are you facing a similar situation?

Have you entered a season where you are finding life to be stagnant, non-sensical, or toxic? Or maybe everything is going good, but you are feeling a sense of dissatisfaction or emptiness.

Don’t try to navigate through that season on your own. Turn your face to God, and pray a daring prayer: “God, I want to see You at work in my life. I want to see something change. Let Your Will be done!”

And don’t be surprised that when He aligns your life with His heart, He will begin to make things shift and He will prune things out of your life. It will require you to stretch, and it is so worth it.

He is the God of Order; He will bring order to the chaos that surrounds you.

Think about setting time aside to prepare your heart. Pray about beginning a fast of your own.

Fasting is not a means to bribe God.
Fasting is not a method to talk God into doing something.
Fasting is not a mechanism to achieve what you want.
Fasting is not about a motive to lose weight either.

Fasting is your declaration of surrender to His Will.
Fasting is your time to prepare your heart before God for what is to come.
Fasting is your request to God to break you.
Fasting will break you for the better.

Consider “31 Days” for the month of May!

Consider participating in 31 Days, an initiative that has been launched by our local church for the month of May. Choose to set something aside to make room for prayer.

Ready yourself for an amazing journey!

More to come…

One post could never capture all that we have learned, but in the days and years ahead, we hope to share many invaluable principles we have discovered during this season of being still before God. We will also feature some testimonies from our family members and friends who are eager to proclaim what the Lord has done in their lives.

We close with a powerful Word that has been declared over this season by several servants of the Lord:

21″He changes times and seasons…
he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding;
22 he reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what is in the darkness,
and the light dwells with him.
23 To you, O God of my fathers,
I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and might,
and have now made known to me what we asked of you…”

– Daniel 2:21-23

He makes all things beautiful in His time. His Grace has truly sustained us, and we know that He will do the same for you! May His perfect Will be done in all of our lives!

Today, we celebrate a glorious and victorious season, and the launch of greater times ahead. To God be all the glory; great things He has done, and greater things He will do!

Life is not about us; it is all about Him!
